What is Cross Realming?
Back in the mid-1980s while playing Advanced Dungeons and Dragons my group of players wanted to also play Gamma World, Boothill, Auto Duel and a few others. During the game sessions the idea was born that maybe the characters could start to drift from world to world via portals of some sort. Magic was used on some worlds, worm holes on others, and unusual unexplained phenomena rounded out the list of how a character could move from realm to realm.
We started creating charts for conversion and contributed to Dragon Magazine articles and e-bullentin boards. Likewise taking from those same sources until we were happily playing across space and time with the same characters. This led to unusual story lines from time to time, like when fighting in a goblin city underground a mistake in timing and positioning led to one of my magic user characters being nuked with a micro missle from Gamma World. It was a sad day but also very entertaining. How often do you see a warrior in gleaming white armor (Storm Trooper) riding the back of a hippogriff?
